Make

The manufacturer of the device that captured the image.

The camera or phone model.

Lens Model

The lens used, as reported by the lens electronics.

Lens Info (Lens Specification)

Four numbers: minimum and maximum focal length, and the maximum aperture at each end.

Body Serial Number

The camera body's serial number.

Lens Serial Number

Serial number of the attached lens.

ISO (Photographic Sensitivity)

The sensor's sensitivity setting. Higher ISO brightens the image at the cost of more noise.

F-Number (Aperture)

The lens aperture as an ƒ-stop. Smaller numbers mean a larger opening: more light and shallower depth of field.

Exposure Time (Shutter Speed)

How long the sensor was exposed, in seconds.

Shutter Speed Value

The shutter speed in APEX units (log2 of 1/time). Redundant with Exposure Time but written by many cameras.

Aperture Value

The aperture in APEX units (2 × log2 of the ƒ-number). Redundant with F-Number.

Max Aperture Value

The lens's widest aperture at the focal length used, in APEX units.

Focal Length

The lens focal length in millimetres at the moment of capture, not adjusted for sensor size.

Focal Length in 35mm Format

The focal length converted to a full-frame equivalent so different sensor sizes can be compared.

Exposure Program

The exposure mode: manual, program, aperture priority, shutter priority, or a scene mode.

Exposure Mode

Whether exposure was set automatically, manually, or by auto-bracketing.

Exposure Compensation (Exposure Bias)

How far the photographer pushed the exposure from the meter's suggestion, in EV.

Metering Mode

How the camera measured light: across the whole frame, weighted to the centre, or from a spot.

Flash

Whether the flash fired, and its mode (auto, forced, red-eye reduction, return light detected).

White Balance

Whether white balance was automatic or set manually. The colour temperature itself is usually only in maker notes.

Light Source

The kind of light the camera assumed when setting white balance.

Scene Capture Type

The scene mode the camera used: standard, landscape, portrait or night.

Digital Zoom Ratio

How much the image was cropped and enlarged digitally. 0 or 1 means none.

Brightness Value

The scene brightness measured by the camera, in APEX units. Negative is dark.

Subject Distance

The focus distance in metres, if the lens reports it.

Date/Time Original

When the photo was taken, as local time on the camera clock. This is the date most apps show.

Create Date (Date/Time Digitized)

When the image was stored digitally. Same as Date/Time Original for digital cameras; differs for scans.

Modify Date (Date/Time)

When the file was last modified by software that updated the field.

Offset Time Original

The time zone of Date/Time Original, e.g. +05:30. Without it, the time has no zone.

Sub-second Time

Fractions of a second for the capture time, so burst frames sort correctly.

GPS Latitude

North–south position where the photo was taken, stored as degrees, minutes, seconds plus a N/S reference.

GPS Longitude

East–west position, as degrees, minutes, seconds plus an E/W reference.

GPS Altitude

Height above (or below, per GPS Altitude Ref) sea level in metres.

GPS Image Direction

The compass heading the camera was pointing, in degrees (true or magnetic per GPS Img Direction Ref).

GPS Speed

How fast the device was moving, with the unit in GPS Speed Ref (K km/h, M mph, N knots).

GPS Horizontal Positioning Error

The estimated accuracy of the position in metres.

GPS Date Stamp / GPS Time Stamp

The UTC date and time from the GPS receiver — an independent, time-zone-free timestamp.

GPS Destination Bearing

Bearing to a destination point, in degrees. Apple uses it alongside Image Direction.

Orientation

How the stored pixels should be rotated or flipped for display. The pixels themselves aren't rotated.

Image Width (Exif Image Width / Pixel X Dimension)

Width of the image in pixels, as recorded in the EXIF.

Image Height (Exif Image Height / Pixel Y Dimension)

Height of the image in pixels, as recorded in the EXIF.

X Resolution / Y Resolution (DPI)

The intended print density in pixels per Resolution Unit — what everyone calls the DPI. It's a label and does not affect the pixels.

Resolution Unit

Whether X/Y Resolution are per inch or per centimetre.

Color Space

The colour space the image data is in: sRGB, or 'Uncalibrated' when a wider space such as Adobe RGB or Display P3 is defined by an embedded ICC profile.

Bits Per Sample

Bit depth per colour channel.

Software

The firmware or application that last wrote the file.

Host Computer

The device that processed the image.

Artist

The photographer's name, set in the camera menu or by editing software.
