What personal information is in a photo's metadata?
GPS coordinates (often within a few metres), date and time, device make and model, sometimes the owner's name and copyright, and the software used. Combined across photos, that's a map of your life.
Does iMessage keep photo location?
Yes, when sent as a photo the full metadata including location is kept. Use Share → Options → Location off, or clean the photo first.
Is it safe to post photos on Instagram?
Instagram removes EXIF including GPS on upload. But the photo may show identifiable things, and the original with full metadata is still on your phone and in your backups.
