How do I add a copyright to a photo?

Drop a JPEG here, enter your name (the notice builds itself), and click Apply & download. Your name is written into the EXIF Artist and Copyright fields in your browser — pixels untouched, nothing uploaded.

Where is the copyright stored?

In the standard EXIF Artist and Copyright fields that professional software reads — Lightroom, Photoshop, agencies, and stock sites all display them. It travels invisibly with the file.

Is this better than a watermark?

Different jobs. A watermark is visible but changes the image; EXIF copyright is invisible and keeps the photo clean — and it's what professional workflows check. Many photographers use both.

Does it protect me legally?

You own the copyright the moment you take a photo. Embedding your name asserts authorship, helps honest users credit you, and in some jurisdictions stripping it violates copyright-management-information laws. It's attribution and evidence of claim — not registration.

Can the copyright be removed?

Yes — a metadata remover strips it, and most social networks remove metadata on upload anyway. EXIF copyright matters most for files you deliver directly: to clients, agencies, and stock platforms.

Why (c) instead of the © symbol?

The EXIF Copyright field is ASCII text, and © isn't ASCII — some software shows it corrupted. The (c) form reads correctly everywhere.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything is written in your browser, on your own device — never sent to a server, stored, or shared.

Does it change photo quality?

No. Only the metadata block is rewritten — no recompression. Camera details, dates, and GPS are preserved.

Can I do many photos at once?
