Add GPS to a photo — frequently asked questions

How do I add a GPS location to a photo?

Drop a JPEG here, enter coordinates (or paste them from Google Maps, or tap Use my location), and click Apply & download. The GPS is written into the EXIF in your browser — pixels untouched, nothing uploaded.

How do I get coordinates from Google Maps?

Right-click the exact spot in Google Maps and click the coordinates at the top of the menu — they're copied as latitude, longitude. Paste them into the box here and both fields fill automatically.

Why geotag a photo?

Cameras without GPS leave photos location-less; scans have no location; sometimes location was simply off. Adding it afterwards makes photos appear on the map in Apple Photos, Google Photos, and Lightroom.

Does it change photo quality?

No. Only the metadata block is rewritten — the image data is copied through untouched, no recompression. Camera details and dates are preserved.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Coordinates are written entirely in your browser. Use my location reads your device's own geolocation — the photo never goes anywhere.

Will photo apps see the added location?

Yes — Apple Photos, Google Photos, Lightroom and others read the standard EXIF GPS fields this tool writes, and will place the photo on their maps.

Does it work with HEIC or RAW?

This web tool writes GPS into JPEG files. For HEIC — and for geotagging many photos at once — the EXIF Viewer by Fluntro app edits location right in your iPhone/iPad library, including in bulk.

Can I remove a location instead?

Yes — the Remove EXIF Data tool strips GPS (and everything else) before you share. And the Photo Location Viewer shows what's currently in a photo.

Is geotagging photos misleading?
