How do I compress an image online?

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Unlike most online compressors, this one runs entirely in your browser — never sent to a server, stored, or shared. Once loaded, it even works offline.

What quality should I use?

80% is the sweet spot for most photos — a big size drop with no visible difference. Use 90% for photos you treasure, 60–70% for email and web where size matters most.

How much smaller will it get?

Camera JPEGs typically shrink 40–70% at quality 80; PNG photos often shrink 80–90% converted to JPEG. Exact before/after sizes are shown after compressing — adjust and retry freely.

Does compressing reduce quality?

JPEG is lossy, so some detail is technically discarded — but at 80% it's invisible at normal viewing. Dimensions stay exactly the same; only the file size drops.

Does it change the dimensions?

No — pixels stay identical. To shrink dimensions too, use the Resize Image tool; combining both gives the smallest files.

What happens to the metadata?

It's removed. Compression re-encodes the image into a clean file without the original's hidden data — including GPS — which saves a little extra space too.

Can I compress a PNG?

Yes — it converts to JPEG, dramatically smaller for photos. JPEG has no transparency: transparent areas flatten onto white. Graphics that must stay PNG should keep the original.

Why compress at all?

Faster uploads, email attachment limits, quicker web pages, less storage. A 4–8 MB phone photo typically becomes 1–2 MB with no visible difference.
